Psychological Testing

Who Testing Can Support

We provide psychological, neuropsychological, and psychoeducational evaluations for children, teens, and adults, in Durham, the Triangle area, and across North Carolina, offered in-person and virtually to meet people where support is needed.

People seek testing at different points in their lives. Some come with specific questions, while others arrive with a sense that something feels unclear or out of alignment in school, work, relationships, or daily life. Our role is to create a respectful, collaborative space to explore those questions and better understand how cognitive, emotional, and developmental patterns show up in real-world settings.

Our work is grounded in a strengths-based, neurodivergent-affirming perspective that honors individuality, culture, and context. We strive to create an experience that feels collaborative, supportive, and attuned to each person’s lived experience.

What to Expect

Our comprehensive evaluations are collaborative and thoughtfully paced, grounded in your real-world questions, strengths, and everyday needs.

Getting to Know You

We begin by talking through your questions and concerns that led you to explore testing, and learning about your history, experiences, and goals. This helps us design an evaluation that reflects what matters most to you or your family.

Assessment Sessions

Testing may include a mix of conversation, interactive activities, and questionnaires, tailored to the individual’s age, needs, and referral questions. We prioritize comfort, flexibility, and a supportive environment throughout the process—especially for children, teens, and individuals who may experience anxiety, fatigue, or sensory sensitivities.

Understanding the Results

Once the evaluation is complete, we meet to review patterns, strengths, and areas of growth or support together. You’ll receive a written report that translates findings into practical, meaningful guidance for school, work, therapy, or everyday life, including support for accommodations, treatment planning, and next steps.

You’re always welcome to ask questions along the way—we see this as a shared conversation, not a one-way process.

Preparing Your Child for Testing

Before your child’s testing appointment, it can help to talk with them about what to expect. You might explain that they’ll do a variety of activities—some like schoolwork, others more like puzzles or games—that help us learn how their brain works, including their strengths and areas for support. Reassure them that their provider already knows about them and is excited to get to know them in person.

We encourage children to ask questions and share their thoughts throughout the process. Their curiosity and comfort matter, and we do our best to make testing feel positive and empowering. A good night’s sleep, a balanced breakfast, and regular medications (unless instructed otherwise) help set them up for success. Bringing a water bottle and snacks can also keep energy and focus steady.

Children are always welcome to take breaks, ask questions, and move at a pace that feels comfortable for them.

Just for Kids

We believe children deserve to understand themselves in ways that feel empowering, affirming, and age-appropriate. When a child participates in psychological testing, our goal is not only to learn about how their brain works—it’s also to help them feel seen, respected, and supported throughout the process.

Our clinicians take time to explain what’s happening in simple, reassuring language and create space for children to ask questions, take breaks, and move at a pace that feels comfortable for them.

Some families also explore school support services or child and teen therapy as part of their assessment journey.
