Amber Brown-Venegas (she/her/hers) is a Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate in North Carolina specializing in working with children, adolescents, and adults across a wide range of presenting concerns, identities, and life navigation. She focuses on providing client education in support of understanding, promoting client autonomy, and validation of each individual’s experience and present emotions. Amber values creating a therapy space where clients are able to show up in all identities and emotions. She focuses on collaborating with the client to identify coping skills, explore growth, and guide the therapeutic process.

Approach

Amber’s approach is collaborative and understanding, and every client's emotions, presentation and identities are accepted. She has an integrative approach, drawing from Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to tailor the process to each client’s needs. By focusing on seeing each client as a whole person with differing needs and wants, she ensures a welcoming, helpful, and compassionate environment for all identities and struggles.

 

Sessions may concentrate on understanding of self, beliefs, values, and strengths, developing coping mechanisms and navigating interpersonal issues, as well as validating emotional expression and individual experiences.

Background

Amber earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Criminology from North Carolina State University. She spent three years working at the Duke Center for Autism and Brain Development, assisting a research team and working with children ages 6-14 on the autism spectrum. Amber then obtained her M.Ed. in College Counseling and Student Development and became a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate. During her Master’s, she worked alongside adults and focused on establishing a foundation of compassion, building client autonomy, and meeting each person in the here and now. 

Outside the Office

Amber was born and raised in North Carolina where she resides with her husband, dog, and cat. Outside of work Amber loves to host game nights, attend an occasional trivia night, read and try new food spots.
